Speaker / Currency of Hope Meeting
Toward the beginning of the meeting, the chairperson asks for a volunteer to share his/her DA story for 15 – 20 minutes. Anyone who has abstained from incurring new unsecured debt for the previous 90 days, and has received two or more pressure-relief meetings, may volunteer. The group is delighted to have potential speakers visit and volunteer.

After the main meeting, a DA Basics presentation begins at approximately 6:45 PM Eastern Time. Newcomers and those working DA without access to strong face-to-face meetings will find it particularly helpful.
Topics are usually 1st Sunday, step of the month; 2nd Sunday, tool and tradition of the month; 3rd Sunday, speaker's DA story; 4th Sunday, group conscience/business meeting (no main speaker); 5th Sunday, special DA topic (e.g., Visions, Underearning, Couples and Money, etc). Anyone who has abstained from incurring new unsecured debt for the previous 90 days, has received two or more pressure-relief meetings, and has experience, strength, and hope on the topic is qualified to be the main speaker. Speakers brand-new to phone meetings are very welcome; the Meeting Chairperson takes care of running the meeting, etc. To volunteer to be the main speaker for a future date, arrive early and ask for the Speaker Chairperson.

little or no access to face-to-face meetings. For the
next few months, group conscience will determine the
format for that month's meetings. Using the DA Meeting
Format, the "Speaker" section will be devoted to one or
more of the Steps, Traditions, Tools, Promises,
Signposts, Currency of Hope Stories, etc of the DA
program, while the "Sharing" section will be open to
sharing on the topic of the "Speaker" section.
Beginners or those brand-new to phone meetings are very
welcome.

The telephone conference room is reserved for fellowship for 15 minutes before the meeting starts and for 25 minutes or more afterwards.

To unmute, press the 6 key (you'll hear "Muting Cancelled" when you've successfully unmuted). To mute whenever you are not sharing, press 6 again (you'll hear "You Are Now Muted"). If you have trouble muting or unmuting with the 6 key, try a different phone.

The recording is updated rapidly if there are any changes or unusual circumstances. Call it to confirm the instructions if you have any problems.
Anyone attending a phone meeting is charged by their local phone service, long-distance, and/or cell-phone provider exactly what they would be charged (if anything) to call any other phone number in the Santa Cruz, California (USA) area code 831, exchange 600, for the length of time they are on the call, at the rates applicable to that day and time. A few callers may be local to the dial-in number, 831-600-1000, but for most it is a long-distance call. The teleconference company claims, "We can not and do not put charges on your phone bill," and that appears to be completely accurate. Phone meeting regulars have heard of no extra fees, surcharges, etc. billed by or through the teleconference service to those calling in. Those with unlimited USA calling have found that there is no charge for the call. DA members attending phone meetings are usually happy to provide information about inexpensive calling options they've found; ask before or after a meeting.
Phone meetings are very similar to face-to-face meetings in format, with minor additions to make the meeting run smoothly, e.g., a request to keep your phone muted when you are not speaking to the meeting. The meetings occur as telephone conference calls. Anyone calling the teleconference phone number and entering the meeting access code at the time of the meeting is automatically put into a conference call with everyone else. It's a good idea to call in a few minutes before the meeting actually starts. At some meetings, anyone calling in may volunteer to chair the meeting that day; other meetings arrange for the chairperson in advance.
